While this genre is not my preferred type, I found JACK, I AM to be a very interesting read. I originally picked up this book wanting to look deeper into the account of "Jack The Ripper" and as this story told the possible version from the other side, I thought it would be thought-provoking. It must have taken Rick Carter-Squire a lot of research to create the timeline and setting so well. Maybe a novel like this can lead us to understand "the other side of the story," even when the crimes are as horrendous as these were.

Jack I Am eBook RA CarterSquire Reviews

Explicit and graphic in nature, a very good read. The author describes a scenario that was not followed up on at the time of the crimes. Personally I would have liked more background
infornation on the main characters upbringing and education.
This is so much different than other writers who have tried to bring the 1800s to life. The exquisite descriptions of the scenery pull the reader in so far as to say that it is almost as if the past is the present. The story line is almost like reading an autobiography. This made it interesting and very suspenseful at times. A very good read and one that is VERY hard to put down
A most enjoyable read. Rick Carter Squires has produced a whole new theory as to who Jack The Ripper really was and why he decided to rid the Whitechapel area in London of the many prostitutes who hung around the street corners.

Everyone has heard of Jack The Ripper and the many ideas as to his identity. Here, the author puts forward another plausible notion. To say more would only spoil the story for others. Enough to say that this is a must for all Ripper readers.
This book is different from other printed Jack the Ripper material in that it is fiction and also actually attempts to see the events through the eyes of the man himself.

It does not set `Jack' up as a hero; it's important I get this across, It draws on the wealth of known information which has been painstakingly researched. Mr Carter-Squire puts forward the theory that the Ripper was an ordinary working class man who had a flair with knives . Subjected to sexual humiliation by his mother and later his wife `Jack' concentrates his hatred on the prostitutes abounding on the streets of Victorian London.

Mr Carter-Squire's storytelling is factually based and demonstrates good knowledge of the period without being a history lesson. His realistic dialogue and evocative description really bring the streets of Victorian London to life. Whilst reading the book I could smell the fish at Billingsgate market (Not a pleasant sensation for me personally but I won't go there), I sat with `Jack' in his cold dingy rooms, tasted his food and drink and followed him through the shadowy smog acutely aware of his hatred for the women of the streets. If a book can give you a real sense of another time then it is worth the praise.

I thoroughly recommend this book to all people with an inherent fascination with the Ripper killings but I still don't think we will ever known his identity for certain.
